Default What is expected of me as a Warlock (WoW)?

I typically like to solo in WoW, but as I get higher in level (currently level 60), I'm realizing that soloing just isn't going to cut it anymore. It sucks too, because it's such a crap shoot running instances - you could get a great group full of nice people, or you could get a group full of elitists who think they know your play style better than you. But that's neither here nor there.

Since I soloed for most of my game, I was a demonology warlock, but I just recently did a respec and went full destruction.

When I run instances, I typically start of with DoT spells (Bane of Doom, Curse of Elements, Immolate), and then spam Shadow Bolt until its time to recast my DoTs. Sometimes I throw in a Soulburn -> Soul Fire for good measure, if the enemy is a tough one.

Am I not being efficient enough? I feel like as a warlock in a group setting, I'm not nearly doing the damage I should be doing, but that just might be because I'm used to being a tank.
