Default World of Warcraft resto shaman?

Ok so my Draenei shaman is level 83 and has ALL 80-85 quest gear i tried my first cata dungeon and i didn't do so well. The tank lost health really fast and so did the dps, the tank was yelling at me to put down totems to help there dps and stuff so i did that made me run out of mana and the dps pulled and the tank didn't tank the mobs the dps pulled and we died. I have 50k mana and i have NEVER went out of mana before in my whole time healing as a resto shaman, is this normal to have trouble at first? is there anything i can do to become better? I would appreciate any tips and even a "rotation" or what spells are best to use, thanks

Yeah, healing is much different now than it used to be. Before, a tank could pull half an instance and the healer wouldnt even break a sweat, now you'll go out of mana on a single pull if you arent super careful.

My resto shammy hit 85 a few days ago, it's taken awhile to get used to healing differently but I have a few tips for you.

- 50k mana is NOT ENOUGH. Nowhere near it, you need to stack intellect like crazy, and spirit like crazy too. Ignore any gear without spirit. You'll know when you have enough spirit if you can cast healing wave almost endlessly and stay at 100% mana.
- Healing surge should almost never be used. I know it's tempting to spam it away and fully heal everyone, but forget trying it. All you will do is run out of mana and wipe the group. It worked great for me before level 80, but it's impossible to heal this way now.
- Keep stoneskin, flametongue, healing stream and wrath of air down at all times. If you get to 60% or lower mana, throw down your mana tide totem during a fight. Use totemic recall after every fight so you dont have to drink as much.
- Never enter a fight without being at full mana, and allways tell the group you are unable to heal like you could before level 80. People need to learn that crowd control is a must, use your hex and bind elemental spells on every pull. If the group wont let you mana up or CC, it's better to leave than get a costly repair bill.
- Recently I have found casting greater healing wave is the best way to heal a tank. It uses alot of mana, but heals much more than healing wave and is more efficient than healing surge. Keep riptide + earth shield on the tank at all times. Use unleash elements, natures swiftness and greater healing wave to heal about 70% of a tanks health in one go.
- Dont be afraid to not heal dps. I quite often let a dps go down to 40% or lower before I heal them. After while you learn the fights, and know if they will get hurt soon, and if you should bother wasting mana on them. Blizzard themselves said that if a DPS gets hurt it can waste 20% of a healers mana, so sometimes it's better to leave them.
- Use healing wave in low damage situations. It's not ment to heal people as much as it's supposed to lessen the damage somebody takes. Once you have enough spirit this spell is essentially free, so use it to top people up to 100%.

Sorry for the long post

Oh, and one more thing. If you arent using a healing add on allready - install healbot or grid. It will make your life much easier, you can see predicted healing, makes it much easier to heal people without remembering your hotkeys, lets you heal one person while targeting another and also lets you tell who is cursed and who is being targetted by an enemy. I cant imagine healing without healbot, myself.

It's totally normal. Healing is actually difficult now with cata, wrath made it easy. It might have not been your fault, but that's just a chance since I don't know your gear or their gear. I had trouble healing on my priest and druid in cata dungeons. I don't have a sham, so I couldn't tell you a rotation. Main point- healing is hard now. Try asking in forums
