Default what is causing my Playstation 2's video to cut out when switching games?

Ok so I just bought a brand new ps2 slim like last week and everything works fine exept my video cuts out all of a sudden when I switch games sometimes. But the audio stays ok. I usually switch between ps2 and ps1 games but I don't think that's the problem. Sometime even reatarting the system doesn't bring it back and I sometimes have to unplug and replug the av cable in the back of the ps2 just to get it back but starting to become a real hassle and I would like to know why it happens so much. I'm using a fairly new flatscreen tv that I've had no problems with in the past when playin xbox 360 or ps3. I'm thinking the old ps1 games are to blame but they work fine. And I've tried both the av cable that came with the ps2 and the one that came with my ps3 and it does it for both. Please let me know if you know why's wrong.
Oh and it cuts out the video just from restarting the system too
