i am thinking of getting WOW today. just a little help though, what is it with all these other cd's than the original? (cataclysm, BC, ice kingdom) are they just expansion packs? i dont know how WOW works, can you guys please fill me in on what to do to get started?

See if you can find the Battle Chest that contains both original WoW (brown box) and Burning Crusade (green box). That should save you some money getting started.

If you can't find the Battle Chest, all you NEED to start is original WoW (brown box)

If you want to play as a Dranei or Blood Elf right away, you will need Burning Crusade (green box right away). You will need it no matter what if you plan to level past 60. Burning Crusade will get you to 70.

Wrath of the Lich King (frosty blue box) gets you from 70-80, and Cataclysm (black and red box) gets you from 80-85.

You need to install them in the order I have listed. For example, you cannot install original WoW and skip all the way to Cataclysm, it won't work. You would also have to have Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King installed before you could install Cataclysm.

You don't HAVE to buy all of them right away, you only really NEED them once you hit the level cap of the previous game/expansion.

If you try to do something in game but don't have the proper expansion, then you will be informed of such, and you can decide then if it's something you want to use or if you can go without it for the time being.

You also need to register at battle.net and pay a monthly fee of $14.99

Ok yes they are all exspantions but you should get them cause if u get just WoW ull get lvl 60 oh no everyones better than me! So I suggest u buy bc and lk if u can't afford cata then don't fret, I couldn't but I love it now i'v made loads of freinds who I can talk to oven my issuses!
