when doing quests look at your minimap. you will see icons such as this "!" or "?" a yellow ! means that is a quest if you come across ANY ! take the quest. a blue ! means that quest is repeatable or it is a daily and repeatable every day.
a ? means that quest is finishes.
to check your quest log press L you cna reread quest info.
as to where you go for questing well it basicly doesnt matter. all you do is pick up ALL the !'s you see and do them all. no matter what you shouldn't run out of quests if you do this. you will ALWAYS have a quest to do if you pick up the quests you see. as they all take you to other areas/quests.
if you are stuck and dont know where a quest is PRess M it will mark teh spot usually with a yellow ? or number and it will point you to the direction using a green arrow on your minimap.
At level 15 i strongly suggest you start doing dungeons ( this is basicly a party group thing where youo join with 4 other members to defeat bosses and monsters) their is a tank to take the aggro, 3 damage dealers, and a healer. DO NOT JUST GO START ATTACKING MONSTERS!!! you will die they are not normal they have more hp, defence, everything. let the tank start attacking monsters and as he is attacking attack the same monsters as him rinse adn repeat. the healer will/should heal you guys. dungeons give good quests and gear for you better then regular quests and also good exp so is trongly suggest you do dungeons 15+ to lvl. depending on what role you are. tank, dps, or healer your time for waiting to join a dungeon will vary. tank is the fastest, dps is the longest, healer is semi.
I STRONGLY SUGGEST YOU DO NOT QUE UP FOR A TANK OR HEALER!!!!. you will just fk up everything since you are new and everyone will just leave. if you are wanting to learn how to heal or tank and remake a new character i suggest you look up videos on how to tank, stats for your class, and howto gear and all that. no one wants to join a bad healer or dps or tank so dont be a sour puzzy just because u dont wana wait 30mins+.
do quests while you wait for dungeons.
EMPTY all your bags with useless shet before going into dungeons you will be picking up alot of items.
also learn how to use Need and Greed button. basicly it is NEED BEFORE GREED which means if you absolutely need the item for anything besides selling. such as to wear. NEED IT. if not GREED IT. but their are some idiots called "ninja's" who need everything/items they dont even need just to sell it. people like this will usually get kicked from the party at a higher lvl and low lvls too. getting money in this game is easy just time consuming so dont worry about it.
PS- i strongly suggest you get your proffesions and work them up. All proffesions are good and cna make money you can get them at any major city

well mostly after ur done questing in one area u will get a quest telling u to go to another area and talk to 1 guy, when u get there, there will be tons of quests and thats how u move from quest areas, they added on the map a marker for quests when u track them that tells u where they will be at or thier general area, hope this helped alittle and abit of advice, wows a great game so dont give up to easily, find a guild that will help u out and get used to the enviroment.

There are a few things you can do. Other people have elaborated, so I'm not going to type out a long essay.
Make you you read and follow all of the tutorials in the game (Escape > Interface > Help > Enable Tutorials). They will show you the ropes. As far as questing goes, it's pretty straight forward, just do all of the quests you can find, and you will eventually get a quest to move on to a new area. Rinse, repeat.
If you would like some more detailed information, the battle.net WoW site has an entire beginner's guide. I have never looked at it, so I don't know how much it can help you.
Here's the bottom line. WoW is all about learning as you go along. You learn something new about the game everyday. When you first start out, it can be pretty intimidating. Just keep chugging along. It will get easier, you will get better and faster at killing things by optimizing which spells you cast in combat, and you will appreciate the game more. If you don't understand something, you just have to go exploring until you find an answer.

Generally speaking the best course of action for a new player to take is to explore the world and learn the rules.
As for where you should go, it all depends on the level of your character. Your best bet is to go to one of the Capital cities (Stormwind, Ironforge, Teldressil, or Exodar if you are alliance, Orgrimmar, Thunderbluff, Undercity, or Silvermoon if you are horde). In one of the capitals you'll find what looks like a big bulletin board that offers quests. Those quests will give you a quest named something along the lines of "Call To Arms: <Zone Name>". Accept that quest and head out to that zone and turn it in. That zone is where you should be going to leveling in. Just remember that quests are color-coded so you can understand their difficulty in relation to your level. If a quest is grey, then you vastly outlevel it and it will offer little to no challenge. If it is green then you outlevel it and it will be easy for you. If it is yellow, then you are the correct level for it and it will offer you some challenge. If it is red then the quest is more difficult then your level allows and can be very difficult for you.
You'll max out your level LONG LONG before you do every quest in every zone. Hell you might even outlevel the zone WHILE questing in it.
You should also queue up for dungeons and PvP as well. Dungeons are important because, you NEED to learn how to work in a group environment. At the highest levels of play are raids (very large dungeons that require a large number of players to complete). And you need to learn to work as a team to survive it and defeat bosses. But you need to learn how to work as in a team first. And basic dungeons will teach you that, as well as the basic function of the 3 major types of dungeon players (tanks, DPS, healer).
PvP is also fairly important. It will teach you how other classes work, and teach you some of the reflexes you will need to work in a fast paced environment in the game. Be forewarned, PvP and dungeons/raiding aren't the same! You want to learn how to act and react fast, however you won't necessarily learn what the correct moves are. Something that would work great in a PvP environment would be suicide in a dungeon and vice versa.
But right now, learn how the world works. Learn how your class works. Enjoy and have fun.

There is no main quest set, just a bunch of quests in a bunch of different areas. When you start off, you always spawn near a guy with a quest, this is like the beginner quests, once you finish all the quests in one area you move to another. You can go all over and quest, but don't go to an area for higher levelled people. Like if you are level 10, don't got to a level 50 area, or you'll die instantly pretty much.
There are also different types of quests, there are daily quests (blue exclamation point), low-level quests (dull yellow exclamation point), group quests (it will say in the information), and regular quests (bright yellow exclamation points). I don't know if I have forgotten any.
Also if you need help you can always go to http://www.wowwiki.com/Portal:Main , it'll have any information you need.
