i have a mage whos level 45, and her damage is always in second or place on the dps meter (70440, 214.9, 70%) i was wondering, because i constantly here that mage dps is the highest. is that about right for my level?

Sounds about right. Try the 3 different specs out and see what you like. Arcane has the highest damage though.

1. Your dps at level 45 does not matter. Seriously, wait until you're level 85 to worry.

2. Do not choose a class because you heard that it pulls the highest dps. Not only is this not true- the game is balanced so that all classes can DPS just about equally- but a class that's doing well today can and WILL get nerfed to the ground tommorow. Choose your class based on what you enjoy most.

Honestly until you get to max level depending on your spec and rotation and stuff your DPS can vary a lot. I would just ignore your DPS and focus on leveling.
