Hunters are the only class that can have pets. Warlocks and Death Knights have minions. More specifically, Warlocks have demons and Death Knights have a ghoul.
Druids are quite versatile and are great for soloing lots of quests. Bear form can be used in a pinch if you seem to be out numbered, Cat form is good for sneaking around and delivering lots of quick attacks combined with bleed effects, Moonkin I don't know much about because I've never been one, but I hear that they can do lots of damage. You can also pop out of any form once you click on a healing spell which is nice. So you can keep yourself alive with heals, a couple being heals over time or HoTs.
If you are new to WoW, I would recommend a druid because you can heal yourself, but if you would feel more confident with a pet, then I would go with either a hunter or a warlock. You cannot choose a Death Knight yet if you are just starting out because you need to have a character that is at least level 55 on your account to "unlock" them.
Also, if you would like an in game friend or someone to ask for help, I play WoW, both Horde and Alliance. I mostly play on Boulderfist (which is more Horde dominant) and Kel'Thuzad (which is more Alliance dominant)
Hope that's helped some!
