I simply adore disc priests. Buff all those instant shields/heals/hot's so you can be nice and mobile during frantic combat. Powerful instant spells means you dont need to worry about casting speed, interruptions etc, so you can focus everything on making them as powerful as possible.
Personally, I don't like crit, I like to aim to heal -perfectly-, that means NO overhealing. Because to overheal is to a) essentially waste mana and b)draw more threat than you need to.
I usually aim to underheal (normally doing burst heals on anyone approaching 50% health, with the aim to get them to about 90% health) - and using instant HoT spells to keep a constant 'HP refresh' to slow down how quickly the lose health (also you get all those lovely shields that a priest has - which adds to the time you have to cast those bigger, more mana efficient heals)
Because I aim to underheal, if I get a crit, it will take the person to max health, as opposed to over it, so it's more efficient. Whereas if you have high crit, and thus rely on crits, when they DONT happen, you will find you are lagging behind with your healing. Then if you have high crit and DONT rely on it, when they do happen you will often overheal, its just a waste.
I basically put all my points into Int and SP. If you have a massive mana pool, and each heal does as much base healing as possible, then you'll find you dont need Spirit to keep your mana up, as it will never go that far down. (obviously your talent choices make a big difference too)
Obviously when it comes to end-game raids, raiders might want a more dedicated overhealer, to just spam the tank with as much healing as possible, in which case they are likely to prefer holy spec. But I do reccomend that you take disc for levelling, it will train you up to be an agile healing ninja, who also has the ability to put some punishment on the mobs in 5man dungeons as you level, cos a lot of the time your group will be so OP (specifically the tank will be so OP) that you dont need to heal much, so it's best you just do as much damage as possible to speed things up.
